Taking Learning to the Streets, So No Child Is Left Behind
For many children in India, school is not just far — it’s unreachable. It’s not uncommon to find children of construction workers, daily wage earners, and migrant families growing up without formal education. Not because they don’t want to study — but because school never came to their world. At SAHAYA, we decided to change that equation by putting classrooms on wheels — because when education moves, lives move too.

We have employed experienced and compassionate teachers who understand how to engage children in open spaces with little structure. They are trained to meet children where they are — academically, emotionally, and socially. The van travels to three locations each day, reaching over 200 children who would otherwise spend their days working, wandering, or waiting without purpose.
Children receive basic education in literacy and numeracy, are introduced to general knowledge, and are encouraged to express themselves through art, storytelling, and games. The experience is holistic — not just academic. We also introduce hygiene routines, distribute sanitary kits to girls, and create safe spaces for questions and learning that go beyond textbooks.
Each lesson delivered beside a footpath or under a tree is proof that education doesn’t need marble floors — it needs intent, presence, and compassion.

What Keeps This Moving
Running a Mobile Van School is a dynamic task. There are fuel costs, educator salaries, stationery needs, maintenance for the van, and regular distribution of learning tools. Beyond that, we provide drinking water, first-aid, and hygiene materials — especially for girls, who often miss education due to a lack of menstrual care.
We keep adding resources — study tables, drawing kits, games, and water bottles — so that learning becomes interactive and joyful. Every rupee contributed helps us keep the van on the road and keeps a child connected to the power of knowledge.

“When we put learning on wheels, we don’t just move books — we carry hope, dignity, and opportunity to children who’ve been left behind, turning every stop into a new beginning.”
Why This Work Must Grow
In cities built on ambition, thousands of children still grow up on the margins — forgotten by systems, ignored by development. This work ensures they are not lost to the future. A child who learns to count today can run a shop tomorrow. A girl who learns to write her name today may become the first literate woman in her family.
What we offer is not just education. We offer recognition, rhythm, and routine — things that form the foundation of every confident adult. With more help, we hope to increase the number of vans, reach more settlements, and expand our teaching capacity across cities and states.
